Grand Seiko 6245-9000 and 6246-9000

Grand Seiko 62GS. On the left, the 6245-9000, and on the right, the 6246-9000.

These were the first automatic Grand Seikos. The crown at 4 o’clock recessed to highlight the fact that they don’t need manual winding. In fact, unlike the historical re-issues SBGR091-5, they cannot be wound by hand.
Of the regular Grand Seiko cases, the bezel-less one on the 62GS series is by far my favourite. This straight-on shot doesn’t really do it justice to be honest. I need to do a series of “arty” shots at some point in the future!

Although this pair are in really nice condition, I’m always on the lookout for a NOS example…

Grand Seiko 6245-9000

This particular #vintage #62GS hails from 1966. After half a century, it’s perhaps only to be expected that it has a few minor dings and scratches, but what you are seeing here is of course at extreme magnification and all but invisible to the naked eye. Looks as if it has perhaps never been polished? I just love the faceted lugs on the 62’s. By the way – what looks as if it may be dirt through the crystal is actually just a reflection picked up from the surroundings – it’s squeaky clean this one 🙂 #Seiko #GrandSeiko
